Fuel Bars is proud to be Canadian, and just as proud to be sponsoring two great Canadian athletes - Jay Morrison and Jean-François Carrey - in conjuction with one of our great retailers - Trailhead.
First up is Jay Morrison. To fulfill a long-held personal dream, and in support of CPAWS' work to conserve Canada's great Boreal wilderness forests and rivers, Jay is attempting to become the first person to paddle solo across Canada from the Atlantic to the Arctic Ocean in a single year. He'll be paddling and carrying his canoe and gear every step of the historic trade routes established by the Aboriginal peoples and later used by European explorers and fur traders.
Next up...Jean-François Carrey. His goal is to be the youngest Canadian to climb Mount Everest and in doing so, motivate youth on achieving their goals and dreams. J-F’s passion for the outdoors extends back to his youth when he was a member of Scouts Canada. As a Scout, J-F developed some of the skills necessary to achieve his dream. These skills proved useful when, at the age of 18, J-F left for Chamonix, France to Snowboard the French Alps. This excursion became the first step towards J-F’s dream, and the beginning of a series of adventures, which would challenge both his resilience and his endurance.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a crucial component of a healthy diet-particularly, it seems, for pregnant women wanting bright, sociable children
It has been known for some time that omega-3 acids are important, but data from a long-term study of British children suggest they are even more important than had previously been realised. In particular, the amount of omega-3 in a pregnant woman's diet helps to determine her child's intelligence, fine-motor skills (such as the ability to manipulate small objects, and hand-eye co-ordination) and also propensity to anti-social behaviour. Perhaps the most startling finding was that the children of those women who had consumed the smallest amounts of omega-3 fatty acids during their pregnancies had verbal IQs six points lower than average. The researchers' second finding was that at 3½ years of age, those children with the best measures of fine-motor performance were the ones whose mothers had had the highest intake of omega-3s. Their third finding was that a low intake of omega-3s during pregnancy led to higher levels of pathological social interactions such as an inability to make friends as a child grew up. .
